Go ahead, admire the beautifulness!

I can't be alone here... don't we ALL love a great Margarita! 

I am personally on a wellness journey and have found that the only way I can accomplish my goals is to find ways to incorporate the things I love into my nutrition plan... and I HAPPEN TO LOVE MARGARITAS (I know, I know, I already said that)! 

When I first started my journey, I tried to eliminate the "unnecessary" calorie spends only to find myself binging on them at the end of the week. So, instead, I found ways to create my favorites in a healthier way. I mean, have you ever taken a few seconds to look at the ingredients on that margarita mix that you are grabbing at the store?  Here is a quick snapshot... 

This label includes artificial colors, lots of sugars, milk solids?!? and preservatives! The calorie count doesn't seem too bad but then you realize that it is only for a 3 ounce serving. Many margarita glasses hold closer to 5 ounces of a mixer.  The "perfect" margarita at a very popular casual dining restaurant boasts over 300 CALORIES!

To me, the word "MARGARITA"  defines relaxation! When I grab a margarita... I want to kick back, unwind and HAVE MORE THAN ONE! 
So, when I can, I choose to craft my own margarita with some simple ingredients :) 

HERE ARE TWO HEALTHIER MARGARITA OPTIONS


For the first cocktail,  I am choosing AMPED HYDRATE from Isagenix as my mixer!  Sure, Maybe most normal people see it as a healthier sports drink option . Personally,  I see flavors like lime, blue raspberry and COCONUT... and all I can think about it a cocktail on a patio! 
This mixer weighs in at 10 calories per serving!
INGREDIENTS:
  • 1.5 oz of tequila
  • 1 serving of lime hydrate
  • add any fresh fruit juice of your choice 
DIRECTIONS: 
Add everything into a shaker and SHAKE! Serve over ice with salted rim and fresh fruit garnish! Add smashed fresh fruit like strawberries, watermelon, or mango for a fruity Margarita option!

Just look at the nutrition facts on the lemon lime "mixer". This one contains nothing artificial and actually packs NUTRITION into my margarita addiction! I mean... the first ingredient is Organic Jerusalem artichoke - that alone deserves a second drink!  Compare this to your average "sports hydration drink" and you will be impressed. The other "sports nutrition drink" is packed with artificial colors & flavors :( ... you know the brand I am talking about!


ANYWAY - BACK TO THE MARGARITAS!

No Isagenix Amped on hand?! 

NO worries, Here is another healthier scratch margarita recipe! 


INGREDIENTS: 
  • 1.5 oz  tequila
  • 1 oz freshly squeezed lime or lemon juice juice
  • 1 oz light agave nectar (lower glycemic impact than sugar)
  • Citrus wedges (any citrus - lemon, lime, grapefruit or orange)
DIRECTIONS: 

Add everything into a shaker and SHAKE! Serve over ice with salted rim and fresh fruit garnish! Add smashed fruit like berries for a fruity Margarita option!
I added sliced jalapenos and fresh strawberries to this one!

There you go! A few HEALTHIER ways to enjoy your Margarita Mondays! 
If you are on a wellness journey, remember - your diet should fit into your life... you should NOT have to change your life to fit into your diet.
